The Celtic Boyne Valley Day Trip
Yesterday I went on a Celtic Boyne Valley day trip.
My driver and tourguide was Jim, he’s a really nice and funny guy and you can clearly understand what he is talking about even if you’re not from an english-speaking country.
He picked us up at Suffolk street at 8 AM in the morning and as we passed the city of Dublin he told us a lot about the Irish history and the sights we were able to see from the inside of the bus.
We headed straight over to “The Hill of Tara” which is one of the most essential historical sites located in the Boyne Valley.
We had a nice walk over there and Jim told us that the High Kings ruled the country from this exact location.It is said that you can see a quarter of Irelands countryside on the top of the Hill. I didn’t had the chance to see it anyway but maybe it was just in case of the fact that it was rainy and the sky wasn’t clear enough on that day.
Before we left the place we all had a coffee in the little restaurant so we were able to enjoy the amazing scenery that was surrounding us . I really loved driving with the bus through all these beautiful natures.
We arrived at the Trim castle and had the chance to stroll around. After a short drive we had exclusive access to the passage tombs of Loughcrew.Inside the passage tombs I was able to see stonewall artwork that is dated to being over 4,000 years old. There were a large number of Cairns dotted around the area to explore. It was pretty amazing! Furthermore we had a delicious lunch in the little restaurant.
Later on after our lunch we headed over to one of Ireland’s most celebrated monasteries Monasterboice.
On our way to the monastery we had the chance to take some photos of the beautiful nature.The Celtic High Cross of Muirdach at Monasterboice is the finest High Cross in all the land.
I was able to discover some of the best surviving examples of Irish religious artefacts which I think is really cool! There was also the highest round tower in the whole country of Ireland.
Our last stop was the city of Drogheda where we visited the St. Peters Church and Jim brought us on a walking tour through the little town. Everyone had the chance to buy an ice cream.After that we headed back to Dublin where we ended up our Tour.
I really enjoyed this Trip because I learned a lot about the Irish history and the religion. If you are interested in history then the Boyne valley day trip is for you
