Dublin’s Beach Getaway: Howth

Dublin’s Beach Getaway: Howth

Did you know that just a short train ride from Dublin City Centre there is stunning beaches and thrilling cliff walks? Just a short half hour ride north of the city on the DART is the coastal town of Howth.

First up is the cliff walk to Howth Summit. The walk has a gentle incline so is suitable for all ages. Once you reach the top you are treated to views of Dublin city, Howth town and Dalkey Island. If you would prefer an easier walk try taking a stroll along the pier once you get off the DART. This will bring you to Claremont beach. Here you can enjoy miles of Sandy beach with views of Ireland’s Eye, an island just off the coast.

Other Things To Do

Other things to do include Howth Market. This market is conveniently located just beside the DART station. Here you can find a selection of handmade jewellery, antiques and Irish crafts. It is the perfect place to pick up a gift for your loved ones back home. Of course there is also a big selection of food available. This includes full meals and individual organic ingredients.

A couple of minutes from the market is Howth Castle and Grounds. The castle was built in 1564 and has changed much over the years. The castle is unusual in that it is privately owned and there is still a family living there. However they do give tours during the summer. The beautiful surrounding gardens are also well worth a look. They feature a 10 metre high hedge and the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey.

As you can see you don’t have to go far to escape the hustle and bustle of Dublin City so make sure you give Howth a go.
